Is it worth bothering with a Dell, or should I custom build a workstation for Resolve?

I see. But I guess you did try Resolve 10 with it and it worked normally, since you mentioned the P9X79 is fine?
What is the problem you see with the slot layout?
By the way, not doing 4K yet over here. Only 10-bit 422 1080p HD for now.
And thanks for being the only person from the whole forum replying to this thread. I truly appreciate it.

March 19, 2014 at 4:05 pmI have not tested Resolve on that exact Asus board but the P9X79 Pro version and it works fine on that. No reason it wouldn’t work fine on the Regular version if the Pro works. The P9X79 has a PCI slot which is pointless for video and 1 less 16X slot which would be important for expansion. That is why it is a much better fit for audio than video. It also has less Sata ports so that was another reason we didn’t use it for video. Keep in mind if you can afford the Asrock Extreme 9 or the Asus WS version then you would be able install E5 V2 Xeons into that board. That is a big deal if you get over 1080 media later.

March 20, 2014 at 3:03 pmThanks. I thought you had tested it when you said it would work fine. Just because it’s a P9X79 doesn’t mean it will work though. For example, the WS version, or the P9X79 WS doesn’t seem to work as reported by many users in this forum because it has no PCIe lane which is not shared. So some who bought it couldn’t get it to work.
About the Asrock, I’m hesitating going with other than an Asus P9X79 because this is the only one Blackmagic tested.
