September 6, 2011 at 6:05 amNormally you simply render out an AE timeline into a self-contained movie file, and import that into Avid. Not sure why you’d bring AE into Avid, as you’d almost certainly do your editing in Avid, and in most cases it isn’t feasible to translate AE filters and features into the Avid workflow.
However, Automatic Duck (https://www.automaticduck.com) can import Avid projects into AE (so you can have all the clips arranged in the AE timeline, etc). Or, if you have Premiere, you can export an AAF out of Avid, import that into Premiere, and then send it from Premiere into AE. A bit muddled, but workable….
I do a lot of AE work with Avid, and the general workflow is as follows:
1. Edit a rough in Avid, mock up graphics if desired (or put in title cards as stand-ins, etc).
2. Export a lo-res QT movie from Avid as reference. Export timeline via AAF/Premiere or Automatic Duck to AE (if needed).
3. Import clips and Ref QT into AE. Do all the effects work.
4. Render out hi-res video, import that into Avid.Ben Unguren
