As an online editor sometimes I need to check for a flash field just before a cut and being able to step through the fields makes it easy to do that. Also I can check for reverse field issues. And if I need to pull a still frame from material that has a pulldown in it I can check for a frame that has the same field twice so I don’t get a frame with motion in the fields.

In the Program Monitor window options, under FIELDS, you’ll find options for First, Second, or Both, if that helps.
