  • Is it possible to import subtitle file into PP2?

Posted by Gergo Somogyvari on March 6, 2007 at 6:51 pm

I edited a one hour long documentary in PP2, hdv. We had to translate all the speech so
we written 300 subtitles in Subtitle Workshop and we made the DVD with Encore.
Next step I have to make a hdv tape with the subtitles for a festival screening. I don’t find an option how to add my existing subtitles for my premiere project, than I can export it to tape. Is it possible somehow or can I do something else? Maybe somebody has an idea what to do. sorry for my poor english!

Subtitles made in MS Word can be copied and pasted title by title to the Premiere titler.
May be this is also possible from Subtitle Workshop. You can give it a try.

    Good luck

There are two professional tools that do what you want:
LEMONY (which used to be Stream Sub Text)
and, to a lesser degree “Belle Nuit”, which will create the files you need for FCP… not sure about the Premiere support on Belle Nuit.

    regards, n.m.

    thanx
I will try this softwares, because I dont want to copy paste and timing 300 subs again.
Now we made an 1080×1440 uncompressed avi what is good for screening but encore cant use this aspect ratio and anyway, I dont wanna burn a dvd I want my avi with subs and export it to tape.
Do you know some possibilities to take the subtitle on the avi format, and render it without changing the format. after that it should be easy to export the film to tape.

I have no idea if Belle Nuit will import your files, but there is a free trial version on Matthias site.
If you can export to text, my subtitle application also can do this. (I also have a free demo online).

I would not worry about the format. All mentioned applications can render out to any resolution.
Personally i prefer to render to a square pixel format and have Photoshop to do a batch conversion to the desired output format/resolution.

Your biggest challenge is to set them at the correct position in Premiere. Most commont trick is to have a macro and an EDL. (I don’t think you can fool Premiere into linking to still files from an EDL, but i could be mistaken..)
