    hi there

I know this is a bit OFF TOPIC, but….basically i have a black line drawing and a green background, i want the black line drawing on the green background and i know that in after effects you could do this by copying the black line drawing then inverting it then setting it as an alpha matte to the green background. is anytihng like this possible in photoshop?

    thanks in advance!

Guess what the cahnnels palette is for ;o). Do this:

    a) Select your b/w image, use Edit -> Copy.
    b) In your main document create an empty mask on the layer you want the matte to be.
    c) Open the channels palette. Besides the RGB an a possibel default Alpha you should find a channel named “My Layer’s Mask” or something like that. Select it and do an Edit -> Paste. Done

You might need to turn off the other channels or select the entire canvas, but eventually you’ll get it to work. Masks can be treated with most PS functions, so invert and adjust them as needed.

If your black line drawing is on the white backround you may try to use ‘darken’ or ‘multiply’ instead of ‘normal’ blending mode (in layers palette).
