  • Is it possible to “decompose” a composition?

Posted by Daniel Haskett on May 24, 2005 at 11:07 pm

    Hi there

Ive looked in the help menu but cant find anything under decompose..so i just thought id ask here. Basically if you precompose a few layers but then decide you want to change the timing of a couple you need to decompose the layer right? Or something to that effect, whats the best way of editing precomposed layers in a composition?

    Thanks

    Dan

Well, what I do is option-double click on the pre-comp in the timeline, this opens it up so you can work in it. If you have “Syncronize Time of All Related Items” checked in the General section of the Preferences, this will make it easier to see what you’ve done in the original. Also, if you have enough monitor real estate, you can separate the windows and timelines for the pre and the main to help see the end result.

You can copy-paste all the layers from the pre-comp to the main comp.
    Make the precomp layer invisible.

then parent the layers to your precomp-layer, so they inheret all the motion keyframes from it.

But if you’ve blurred the precomp or added another effect to the precomp

I want to animate (position) a single layer in a precomposed (AND DUPLICATED) composition in AE. If i do so it apllies to all layers in the precomposition and EVEN to the layers in the original composition it had been duplicated from. The same happens when I try to rename a layer…

Anyone an idea how to de-root those connection and make the layers “independent of eacht other and original” ??
