Is it possible to create a discreet audio data disc in FCP?
I am working on a project that needs to be delivered to TV Stations for broadcast. It is a 3 minute package that includes voiceover, BG audio, music & SOT’s. I would like to deliver on a DVD, but need the audio to be discreet so the music or voiceover can be removed or replaced.
The project is XDCAM HD with some other files/formats included that I have converted to XDCAM HD. Is it possible to create a data disc and keep the audio discreet? any suggestions on how to do this…or possibly another solution?
One other note…I have a Sony Z-7 HDV camera…so as a last resort, if the data disc does not work, could I convert the XDCAM HD project to HDV project and print to tape on my camera?

Just set your sequence audio outputs to the appropriate number of dual mono audio pairs, then assign your timeline audio tracks to those outputs accordingly. Export your Quicktime Movie w/Current Settings and you’ll have a Quicktime Movie file with multiple discreet audio tracks as defined by your FCP sequence audio outputs. Note: Don’t be misled when playing this back in Quicktime Player which will automatically mix all audio tracks to 2 channels, although it plays back in Quicktime Player in this fashion the file itself contains true discreet multiple channel audio which will be properly recognized by any multichannel aware/capable Quicktime app.
Setting Audio Outputs
In FCP, go to Sequence Settings window >> Audio Outputs tab and set the number and type of outputs desired eg 4 channel, Dual Mono, Dual Mono would be sufficient for Ch1: VO, Ch2: SOT’s, Ch3: M&E, Ch4: MusicAssigning Sequence Audio to Outputs
In the timeline, right click on or around each audio track’s Autoselect or Track Lock icon and from the context menu choose Audio Output and select the desired output channel for that track (you can also do this track assignment directly in the Audio Mixer Tool window by right-clicking on each track’s number in the Tracks pane at far left)Hope it helps

I fnally got around to testing this out and I am a little confused. When I changed my audio output settings in FCP, a dialogue window came up saying the following:
“the current audio device does not support the number of outputs set in the sequence settings audio output tab. Unsupported outputs will not be heard during playback on this machine unless downmixed to stereo”
Then it gives options to downmix all outputs to stereo.
Also…I followed your directions and was unsure what to do once I had set outputs in FCP and on timeline. do I export using Quicktime conversion and then drop the file onto the DVD icon to burn the data disc? Sorry if this is basic stuff…I do not have much experience with this.
