Is it possible to capture Quicktime movies?
To anyone that can answer this question,
Is there anyway I can capture an existing quicktime movie from either a dvd or external hard-drive rather than importing them? Because importing them forces me to continually render and rerender the clips when i put them in or edit them in my sequence.

That’s because your Sequence Settings don’t match your Clip Settings. Fix this and you’ll edit in realtime with no rendering.

Convert the original Quicktime files to the same codec/fps/… as your sequence.
Then import the resulting file into FCP and you wont have to render any more.
you can open the file in quicktime player and choose Export, setting the properties to match your sequence. or you can do this with Compressor, MPEG streamclip,, what ever.Colin McQuillan

Batch Export works well for me as long as you aren’t going from 29.97 to 23.98 because in that case it won’t always remove the 3:2 Pulldown correctly.
Batch Export works well because it gives all the capture setting options to transcode with.
