    Thanks guys!!

So, here’s a question on my S2VR drive: If it supports RAID 1, how can it mirror the drives if there are 5 drives inside? I thought it had to be an even number of drives for RAID 1.

    Thanks…

You’re absolutely right, RAID-1 needs an even number of drives. My apologies, I was mistakenly looking at the specs for the S2VR Duo, not for the S2VR Pro or S2VR HD.

The 5-drive S2VR HD appears to support either RAID-5 or RAID-3, but it’s simply called “protected” mode on the web page so I can’t tell which RAID level it uses. In either case, its protected mode would allow you to tolerate the failure of one drive without losing data.

I’d suggest that you post on the CalDigit forum for expert answers about the technical details and capabilities of your array.

If there are 5 drives, and it supports raid 5, then there is no need for raid 1
