I’m wanting an effect where the camera angle is straight down from over someone’s head and the company logo is raining down past the camera onto the subject. It would be like the rose petals in American Beauty. I’m looking at foam but am not seeing how to get the bubbles falling downwards from “behind” the camera. Star burst would be perfect if ran backwards, but I’m not sure how to replace the stars with the logo. I’m sure there’s some better ideas out there. Any takers?

    Thanks!

You need something that uses z-depth. If you use the bundled Shatter effect, you might need to check out the COW’s tutorials to make it happen. I’d use Trapcode’s Particular, since it’s just terrific. 🙂 But you have to buy it.

As usual I “almost” have a solution for you, just need a little help from Dan Ebberts or another expression whiz.

Go to Dan Ebbert’s tut, “Building the World’s Greatest Cameraman”. (Click on Dan’s head above and scroll down). Download the project file.
This generates particles(layers of your choice) in 3D space.

Go to the “snow” comp. Delete all the snow layers except for a few.

Put your Bald Head layer at 320, 480, 0, and change the “X rotation” to 90 degrees.

I moved the camera (with the orbit camera tool and the other camera tools) to 300, -400, 0, to get a view from above the bald head layer and have the snow flakes-logos from above.

Then just swap out the snowflakes layer with your logo layer by Alt-dragging the logo onto the snowflake in the timeline window.

Dup the logo layer as many times as you need.

The only problem is, the snowflakes-logos fall through the baldhead layer.

Maybe Dan will come on and tell you how to put a floor at the level on the bald head layer.

Thanks for the info! This is new territory for me so probably will take a little time to work it out.
