  • Is Finalcut Pro upgrade necessary?

Posted by Goldenpin on March 5, 2007 at 5:53 pm

We are currently editing on Finalcut Pro HD version 4.5 (together with After Effects) and we are happy with what we can do. Our company, Goldenpin Productions, make polished corporate video productions, and we are always looking for ways to improve.

I usually think if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, so my question is should upgrade to the latest FC version?

If you tell me it’s an essay. If you show me it’s a story.

As long as you remain self contained (no sharing projects or files with outside vendors) and don’t have equipment failure then it should not be a problem.

If you plan on getting a Intel Mac then you will need to upgrade because FCP 4.5 will not run on an Intel Mac

Well… I have to ask. What do you plan on doing in the future? What kind of camera equipment do you have now and are you planning to upgrade your cameras?

The reason I ask… If you are looking at going P2, HDV, or something like XDCAM HD, you’ll have to have the latest of version of FCP to edit these formats properly.

If all you are using is BetaSP and/or DV, then what you have is just fine.
