  • Is Final Cut’s design causing plugins/filters to run slow?

Posted by Chris Fisher on June 24, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Hi all… Before you yell at me… Hear me out…

I am wondering if things like Primatte Keyer Pro runs slower when rendering using it as a filter in Final Cut vs. Motion or After Effects?

I know.. I know… My hardware is the key factor.

The question is more general to the experts out there that have more experience that I. Am I taking an inherent performance hit running something inside Final Cut, instead of an app like Motion?

I’ll be over here ducking in the corner…

Well, since those apps can utilize more ram, better processors, and/or a better rendering engine in general I would expect FCP to be slower and have lesser quality results. And that has been my experience.

Plus Motion can take advantage of the processing power on the graphics display card as well.

I’ve been wondering about that… It’s still the job of the plugin creator to utilize that ability correct? Or does Motion do this job for them?

Thx for helpin the n00b everyone!
