December 6, 2011 at 6:04 pmI know it’s been a year since that thread died but for future references here is the answer to the xml template error.
In fcp7 you need to export your xml using the version 4 format. If you use the version 5 format you will get the template error when you’ll try to import it in fcp6. That’s because fcp6 doesn’t support xml format version 5.

January 14, 2012 at 8:59 pmI know this thread is old but seems the problem is super easy to fix.
Yes, output from FCP7 with XML4 – I had my client complain that when he opened it in FCP6 it was all offline. I simply performed ‘Reconnect Media’ and it all lined back up beautifully!
And for the record, this is the ONLY website that got me to the right answer.

June 25, 2012 at 9:52 amAwesome, this thread has been quite helpful. I’m going to be using a system with FCP 7 tomorrow, but then going back on a FCP 6 system the rest of the week, so I’ll export an XML from FCP 7 using version 4 and hopefully I should be good! Thanks everybody!
