  • Is Conponent Out of the HVX 200 Hot?

I read elsewhere that Panasonic does not recommend using the component out cable to a HD plasma, etc. because it overheats the cam?

Could be incorrect on that, but I was wondering if this has some truth to it.

There is no truth to that.

Is this what I read mistakenly?

“What I have heard about heat is that this is why they don’t have firewire input->component output, that the combination somehow overheats the system. ”

The camera will not overheat on the component outputs. The camera will not through-put from HD timeline via firewire an HD signal over the component signals. The reason is that that would overheat the ASIC. But since you cannot do this, because the camera will not allow it, the camera cannot/will not overheat. So what you may have read, seems to be written as if it were something you could do, with a warning not do, but in reality, is something you cannot do at all and thus there is no need for a warning as it is just not possible.

You can play out the component analog HD signals all day from the P2 card and it will be fine.

    Hope this helps,

[Jan Crittenden Livingston] “You can play out the component analog HD signals all day from the P2 card and it will be fine.”

But as of yet, Jan, there isn’t a way to get a FCP sequence out to a p2 card for playback using 5.0.4?

Or can I print to a p2 card through a firewire connection with the cam?

FCP output to P2 works fine. You play out your timeline over firewire and hit record on the HVX while in VCR mode. Did this all day yesterday.

    Hi Jan…just wondering…

Does FCP 5.x reinsert the user bit flagged frame data when you lay back to the HVX or 1200A via firewire yet?

This used to be a big problem for me as it would not allow you to turn around and play the layed off tape back at 1080/24p in the 1200 deck. However, I have not worked with the format in a long time.

    thanks for the info,

    Rob
