Footage was hdv edit, dropped into a 10b unc. sequence, rendered and then exported sc QT movie for compressor.

I’m using apple’s setting for 90 min.2-pass and dolby audio.

With previous projects the time countdown was a long gradual process til it was done. But this is the first time I’ve had it get to the point where it tells me less than 2 mins., gradually went up to less than 4 mins. and is still compressing 9 hours after that display.

Now, I’m used to outrageous long compression times, (this one now totaling more than 15 hours) . . . but I’ve never seen a countdown like this where it seems stalled on just a few mins. left.

This is the first time I’m compressing something from a 10b unc. seq. I usually compress a QT sc movie from 8bit, hdv or ProRes.

If it really is still working I don’t want to quit the batch now.

When I look at the lights on my hard drive, I don’t see any signs that it’s working.

Anyone have this happen, is there hope that it will eventually complete the compression?

    PowerMac G5 dual 2.3, 3.5 GBRam, FCP 6.0.3, AT 7.4.5, OSX.4.11, Compressor 3.0.3

    Hi Chris,
You can have a look to the Activity Monitor to see how Compressor is working.

[chris gorman] ” long compression times, (this one now totaling more than 15 hours) . “
Don’t get scared. Normally Compressor gives you around that the double time that really will take. Compressor supposes that the audio will take the same time to process than the video.
6 hours to compress 90 minutes, with your G5, is not a killing mark.
If you quit the process, clean the “History” window to avoid that Compressor re-take the process next time you open it.

    However if you quit

Thanks. If you mean the “batch monitor”, that now tells me 7.56 mins. remaining, 31 hours lapsed. The 31 hours is accurate by my own clock.

Yes, I’ve noticed about the audio, but that was done long ago and is no longer part of these estimates.

I’m guessing it will take about 35 hours, I saw that estimate once on a previous attempt on something else where I opted out.

As long as there’s no error I might as well complete it . . .but never again. There’s got to be a better way.
