  • Is Canon XL2 fully compatible with Pre Pro 1.5

Is anyone using the Canon XL2 with Prem Pro? Are there any problems capturing or recording back to tape with any of the XL2 formats? I am planning to buy an XL2 but notice that it is not supported in the device list–which doesn’t mean it won’t work. I have to be sure of that before I make a purchase. I need full deck control for output to it. I would hate to have to change editing software! Any info you could provide would be much appreciated. TIA

Premiere Pro will NOT capture audio from the ST2 audio tracks. You need a stand alone utility if you want to do that. Otherwise, I have no problems with it.

Thanks Scott, but I am not sure what you mean by the ST2 tracks? Also, am I right in presuming you have no trouble controlling the deck when you print to tape?

BTW, same issue with the GL2. I use Scenalyzer for capture & it works flawlessly. Any idea why this is – and why Adobe can’t seem to fix it?

I shot a short film on an XL2 and tried to digitize the dailies at the end of the day. When I connected the XL2 via firewire – premiere recognized it and the footage showed up on the digitize window. Once I started to dig. the footage it would dig. for about 90 seconds and then come up with a smaller error window that only said – Record error – with an option to hit ok… After doing this 6 times I decided something was not compatible with P.Pro.

I tried all the dif. capture settings within P.Pro and still the same error came up. I was really dissappointed because I was looking into getting an XL2 because of the amazing video quality and multiple shooting options. Since I’m a P.Pro user I went another direction.

I have a dell XPS system with XP pro.
3.2 GHz processor with a Gig of RAM.
    160 gig external media drive.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Chad, sorry to not have responded sooner. Out of town.

When you say you ‘went another direction’ what do you mean. I presume you mean that you had to go to another NLE. If so, which one? I too wanted to use PPro with mine (which I have not received yet.

I am very disappointed to hear that PPRO will not work with the XL2. Have you contacted Adobe? I am finding it very hard to get feedback on the status of the XL2 with Adobe.
