Presently have 1 GB of RAM and want to install another GB. I see it is sold as two 512 chips and the prices range considerably from Apple to other sellers. Is there anything I should be watching out for as far as vendors.
    Thanks for any guidance!

Most RAM you get is pretty reliable. The only RAM that I’ve personally had trouble with in the past is Kingston Value RAM. Kingston makes different RAM, but the “Value” kind has frozen up on me. Could have just been a bad batch, but I won’t buy it anymore myself.

    Good luck!

    I personally like Crucial ram.
Buy all my Ram from them and Never had a problem.

http://www.crucial.com is the only place I recommend. I also recommend keeping all the RAM as a matched set, i.e. all from the same manufacturer.

When I purchase a new machine, I order it with the bare minimum RAM, then replace it all with Crucial RAM. 4GB in one G5, 3GB in another G5 and 1GB in my Powerbook, all working fine.

Make sure you do a hardware test after installing the RAM.

There are a lot of very confusing specs for RAM like CAS latency and other types of timing and things like that. Unless you know what those are and what a G5 is optimized for, make sure the RAM is advertised as Mac compatible.
