Is 4:2:2 compressed?
In a 4:2:2 (or 4:1:1 for that matter) chroma sampling situation; is the “other” chroma info compresed for later decompression or simply tossed out?

Once an image gets encoded to whatever codec you choose (4:1:1 or 4:2:2) that information is gone for the most part. There are tools to help smooth of the chroma but for the most part it is not there.
While 4:2:2 has half of the color info of 4:4:4 it is still considered uncompressed.
