    New to After Effects here.

Just wondering how to add an Iris Wipe transition from one clip to another.

    Thanks,

Remember that After Effects deals in layers, and doesn’t quite work like an NLE. Applying a transition to a layer makes the layer disappear/appear and reveals/hides whatever layers are beneath it.

That said, you can apply effect>transition>iris wipe to the layer, and animate its radius using keyframes.

If the iris’ 32 points (max) isn’t smooth enough, you might want to apply a circular mask (check the help) to the layer and animate its size by scaling the mask (ctrl-T: check the help) and keyframing the mask shape parameter in the timeline.

It’s not as simple or fast as an NLE, but it’s a lot more powerful.
