iPhones with Lidar sensors and USDZ in Motion
I’m quite curious to see Apple announce iPhones with Lidar sensors tomorrow in the keynote. It wasn’t a feature that hugely interested me when they premiered it with the iPad Pro, but I think the quality of possible 3D scans will be better if you look at the camera’s that are generally in the iPhones versus iPads.
Isn’t it… a big coincidence that Apple added support for USDZ in Motion in the last update, while there are already iOS apps that can scan a room in 3D with the iPad Pro’s Lidar sensor, and then export to USDZ?
Then combined with the motionVFX 3D Tracker that they will release somewhere soon, it could lead to cool possibilities. I didn’t think so much about it until I saw this tutorial on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDZtrR475_E) where they put someone from Green Screen in a USDZ model in Motion. So does that mean I for instance, could go to a special location, scan it in 3D, later film myself in front of a green screen, and put myself in a 3D set I all made myself with an iPhone?
This got me quite excited for the new possibilities. It would be cool if Apple would show some of these possibilities, and not only Ikea’s place your furniture here stuff at the keynote.
