Why can’t I edit footage from my iphone 4 without rendering?
It’s an apple H.264 codec. FC 7 asks to match the sequence settings to the footage when I place it
on the timeline. Then it still needs rendering. I have a client that sends me footage from a Kodak consumer camera and I have the same problem. Even iMovie has to convert it. Why cant FC 7 just read it?

btw,The HD footage from the iphone 4 looks quite good when the camera exposes it properly.
    This opens up some possibilities.

Convert it to ProRes422 using Compressor.
You cannot edit effectively with this footage natively in Final Cut Pro.

Because h264 is not an editing codec. If you have more questions on it the forum is full of posts about it, a search will bring them up.
