I know a few folks that grumbled when it seemed the new MacPros are still only 1Gig Ethernet. Well, it looks that a Network Thunderbolt connection may be on the way. This would be a big thumbs up from me! Kewl if it’s true.

Interesting. Only thing I can imagine being an issue is cost of long runs of cables. We’re researching 10GbE right now. This almost makes me wonder if I should hold off, but I probably won’t. 10GbE is affordable now. Which is kind of crazy.

I’ve heard Corning may have something like a 300ft Optical Thunderbolt cable in the works. A company called Sumitomo also supposedly has long Thunderbolt cables in the works.
This TheVerge article mentions the Corning TB cable but I’ve seen other mentions of it as well.

Interesting. Have you heard about this Netgear $1500 10GbE switch? It uses CAT6 and can get up to 55M. For longer runs you need Cat6a.

True. However, the benefit of the Netgear is that you can use regular gigabit ethernet for any system that supports it and only need the Small-Tree or Thunderlink for 10GBe into iMacs. Also, it’s backwards compatible to older mac pros AND the new ones.
And it actually exists now :).

You have to get a Tardis. You should see what Apple’s doing in the 35th century. Wireless networking only works within a given galaxy though.

I’d be happy to get a 15′ Thunderbolt cable. The dang Pegasus R6 is loud!

Odd. My R4 is quieter than the fan in my GTech raid and other similar 2 drive aluminum enclosures I have. I keep the Pegasus on a shelf under the desk though. Barely notice it.
