    HI folks,

I had posted this problem months ago, and none of the responses then helped, although I appreciate the contributions.

Got an AJA IO LA running on a G5 Dual 1.8 and burley rack hard drives. Did have FCP 4.5 but recently moved up to FCP 5 studio.

My problem? My aja is cutting out on audio output for no reason. It’s also very inconsistent which is most annoying. You can play a sequence and shortly afteryou’re into it, the audio just mutes at the io. I can tell becasue the FCP audio montiors still run like the audio is fine. I can always refresh the IO but it gets annoying when I have clients here who want to watch something straight through and it keeps cutting out.

    I have tried the following-

    -trashed preferences
    – disconnected any additional firewire devices
    – cloesd any additional programs
    – fresh computer reboot
    – fresh aja reboot

None of these fix the problem. More importatnly, when I finally got a working audio output of a sequence to Beta Tape, it was the 11th try and I had done nothing different the previous 10 times. This perserverance is really pissing me off and I even have AJA’s ear acknolwedging that I am no longer the only one who calls with this problem.

Can anyone else offer any insight as to what might be going on, or if I should just have it replaced by AJA?

    Thanks, again.

    Reinstall AJA drivers and firmware.

Just to be sure, does the audio cut out at the same place every time?

    Thanks for your responses,

Answers- Yes, and Yes. Re-installed, upgraded, re-upgraded drivers, and have trashed preferences so many, many times.
It occasionally will cut out a couple times, but eventually get past it. Other times, it will be like the following–

PLAY — Audio mutes at 17 sec — refresh
PLAY — Audio mutes at 14 sec — refresh
PLAY — Audio mutes at 1 sec — refresh
PLAY — Audio mutes at 3 sec — refresh
    PLAY — Audio mutes at 2 sec — refresh….

You see how frustrating it gets?

I’m currently working wiht AJA to have it swtiched via warranty. Hopefully it’s io box specific. Will let you know how it goes with the replacement.

    Hello Rick,
I’m having the exact same audio drop problem with my AJA IO LA. It dropped even with a fresh install of OSX.4 and FCP. I too have reinstalled drivers and trashed FCP prefs.

The problem seemed to introduce itself after the installation of an xSAN. I also installed the latest AJA driver then. Most of the time if the project is exported to the desktop and then imported into an empty project and mastered it will work. In other words, the media is coming from the local drive rather than the SAN. But like you said, the problem is so inconsistent that it’s almost impossible to predict a drop with any accuracy. Audio has also occasionally dropped when mastering from the local drive.

I also talked to the tech support at AJA a couple months ago, but didn’t get a conclusive answer.

Rick, just curious, what kind of media storage are you using? Have you tested your replacement from AJA?

    Nathan
