Man o man. Got the controller from AJA’s site. (Never looked for it on a separate installer.) This is one of those blind events that is best forgotten.

Yep. The control panel also updates the firmware for the io. It’s good to have. It also works as a proc amp if you want to bring in VHS footage (even though I don’t like to admit it, I have to do this from time to time).

Using the IO controller for d/a. Yet. when I open Soundtrack Pro, the controller switches to INACTIVE. Thus, Soundtrack pro grabs the IO controls and I cannot use it as a d/a converter while STP is open. Bummer. Any workaround you might think?

Sure, two suggestions. You said you have a Kona 2, correct? Make the Kona 2 your input/output sound device in Soundtrack Pro. Does that release the io? If not, then what you need to do is quit soundtrack pro and set up the io with whatever input you want (ie if you are feeding analog audio, then switch the io to that) and then save a preset with those settings. Save and quit the control panel then pull the firewire plug going into your G5. Open Soundtrack Pro and you should be good.

Even with the KONA2 selected as input it still grabs the IO controls when I go to STP. Your rip the FW cable out solution might just be the one. 😉 Will try it.

As it turns out, the ProIO controller works a bit diferent from the Kona2 Control panel. It always seem to go to INACTIVE if you don’t have the application at the front for switching where the K2’s remains active but shows what QT app is contolling it.

Thanx JerG. Got the Kona2 to get the converted AES from the IO. Just noticed for the first time not that K2 control panel has a selection for ANALOG at Audio in. Does not mention any other audio input other than AES / embedded SDI in the manual. Anyone knows what’s up with that?

Yes, that option is really for the Kona LH line. That card allows analog audio/video input/output. EVen though it looks like an option, it’s not with the K2.
