Is it possible to configure a Final Cut system so that the IO is just an external device?
I would like to use an existing (sdi only) card on my workstation but feed various signals to it via the IO and its control panel.
    regards

    Hi-

Yes! Here is an earlier Cow post that describes it:

    https://www.creativecow.net/forum/read_post.php?postid=111375155576545&forumid=150&highlight=

So, yes, the Io can be used as a stand-alone frame-sync to feed analog and/or digitial signals to anything you like…including the use you asked about, feeding an SDI only card in your FCP setup.

Please feel free to contact us if you addtional questions.

he he …. thats me on the end of that thread asking same question!

I read the material and thought I understood that you cannot have FCP and the control panel running at the same time because of driver problems.
My theory is to somehow de-install the IO drivers from FCP and thus use the control panel and IO to feed embedded SD to a PCI card (running FCP). …….Would this work?
I will try it but first need to know how to deinstall the FCP/IO drivers.
    thanks

    Hi Mark-

The Io drivers and the Control panel are separate pieces of software, so yes, you can install just the Control Panel app. This would then allow you to operate FCP and the Io Control Panel at the same time.

    Thanks,
