  • Invisible object produce a shadow

Posted by Maxim Fischer on July 10, 2017 at 9:04 pm

    Hello,

I worked for the first time with the cloner object and I got stuck by the first problem. The main object for the cloner produce a shadow even though it is invisible.
So I tried it with a compositing tag for the main object and deactivated the shadows. But then the shadows from the cloner disappeared. It is really frusttating and I am really too stupid for researching ….

    I really appreciate your help.

    Best regards
    Maxim

The object being cloned (Schuppe.1) should be invisible automatically when placed in the cloner and should not cast a shadow. Are you sure that Schuppe.1 is causing the shadow and not another object (Untere Teil, for example)? Otherwise, looking at your screenshot alone nothing jumps out at me that could be causing an issue. Could you post your project file?

So I tried it on two diffrent pc’s with the latest version but got the same result. Then I disable the Shader for the Cloner and the shadow disappears from the main object. I don’t get it ….

I got a solution. When I go to the shader->effector->strength and change it from 100% to 99,9999% the shadow disappears. It’s so strange. If you want to find another solution here is the link to my project file:

Yes, that is very strange. The shadow goes away with strength values just above 100% as well. I do notice that at 100% a render seems to hold for several seconds with the render buckets over that shadow area much longer than it does when just placing a regular object there to cast a shadow (indicating that it is doing more calculations), which does seem to suggest that there is something odd going on there.

Well, at least you found a workable solution.

Hi Maxim, I’m new here. So you have already tried adding a compositing tag to Schuppe.1 and turned off shadows for the main object which turned off all the shadows for the clones? I tried recreating it and didn’t see any issues. You could maybe try making the cloner editable. Or in your lights under Project, you can Exclude your main object. Hope this helps or you find a solution. Good luck!

    Hello Ryan,

the problem maker was the Shader I used. So the solution was this :

“When I go to the shader->effector->strength and change it from 100% to 99,9999% only the main shadow disappears.”
