I didn’t really know where to post this question but I figured this is as good a place as any…

Here are the details, we are doing a batman parody in which one shot Batman will “Fly” up to the ceiling / roof. We have some cables, harnesses, pulleys, and safety equipment etc. I have never attempted a shot like this but I was curious if anyone has tips on how to make the cable appear to be invisible. Is there a certain diameter cable that anyone has used that they found worked well? Any tips on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated. I may just have to try to clear it up in post but I would rather use some smoke and mirrors and make it look as good as possible during filming.

    Thanks in advance!

Shoot a plate = a CLEAN version of the environment without wires or rig or extraneous lights or smoke or I could go on and on…with your camera and tripod LOCKED/SANDBAGGED/VICED and monitored by someone so that under no circumstances shall it be moved, touched, shook up, bumped. Then shoot your stunt – without touching the camera. Overlay the stunt onto the clean plate and garbage matte out the rig and wires. The two layers should register seamlessly. If there are issues in Vegas with lay7ers or blending the edges of the garbage matte, I suggest After Effects (CC Simple Wire Removal tool), Combustion (lots of ways), Digital Fusion (more than lots of ways) and a bunch of other software includinh painting out the wires in Photoshop – frame by frame.

If the camera doesn’t move, have a shot where NOTHING else is visible in the frame. Put that clear image on the second track and the actual footage on the top track. Now simply use the Bezier Masking tool to wipe out the wire and the clear background will show through.
