I created a logo with Zaxswerks Invigoratior in AE 7 and wanted to create snow falling onto it. I was going to use Deliriums SnowStorm effect but I can’t seem to get the snow to stick to my 3D Invigoratior layer. The 3D layer is animated to fly up to screen and stop then get snowed apon. Any help would be awsome. Thanks!

All layers in AE are flat: 2D, like movie screens. The Invig plugin basically makes a 3D movie that plays on one of those screens. Any other plugins, such as Delirium, only has access to the screens — it can’t get inside the Invigorator movie, or “on set” as it were.

The only way for snow to interact with a 3D invigorator object would be for the snow to be created and animated by the Zaxwerks plugin … but it doesn’t do that.

You’d have to use a real 3D app for that.

Don’t look at Trapcode’s Particular either — that can make snow in 3D space, but it can’t interact with Invigorator objects either.

If I remember correctly, the DigiEffects snow plug-in works based on alpha channel information of the layer to which it’s applied. It may work with the Invigorator scene you describe, so long as you don’t see the depth of the top surface of the Invigorator letter. You would probably have to put the Invig layer into a precomp or pre-render the Invigorator movie with an alpha channel and apply the snow effect to that.

I would look into using Particle Playground for the sticky bit. Use Kinetic Friction in the Persistent Property Mapper section to get things going. It’ll look for white areas for it to stick to. I suggest that you render one pass of the Zaxwerks logo with texture that has white at the parts where you want to snow to stick and black everywhere else. Then use this rendered movie as your source for the Persistent Property Mapper.
