Inverted Track Point Error
I’ve had this issue on multiple machines, and multiple places, but only in CS3.
If I motion track something, the first point is always good. The second point, and subsequent points on the same piece of footage come out inverted. Feature size is always around -500,20 and search size is about -500,40. The negative sizes change but they hover around -500 or so. The feature center is also outside of the footage area. This happens with all track types.
If you attempt to move the feature center you get, “After Effects warning: Unknown operating system error.” I don’t know if the message is the same on Windows, but I’ve had the exact same thing happen to me on a Windows box. It seems to be operating system independent, which makes this cryptic error message even more cryptic. The message should read, “After Effects doesn’t know what the hell it’s doing!”
This has plagued me long enough. I’ve looked for it everywhere. I can’t imagine that I’m the only one with this problem. It’s followed me from one job to another!
If anyone else has this problem, the temporary fix is to unlink the feature size, make it positive, do the same to the search size, drag the x-position slider of the feature center to get it back into the video frame, and then position it as normal. As you can see, it’s a pain in the ass, especially when using multiple track points!
