Invalid SMPTE Key when Importing subclips
I’m shooting on Sony XDCAM 700, transferring on XDCAM transfer software version 2.10.0, running OSX 10.5.8, FCP 7.0.1.
I’m getting an error message only when I try to import subclips
“Invalid SMPTE key F5.2C.BC.A5 ….”
I think this is a semi-recent problem. I think I imported subclips a few months ago but haven’t been editing XDCAM in a while. We may have upgraded the OS or for sure Final Cut. Does anyone have any ideas?
I think there is a new upgrade to the XDCAM transfer software, but I’d like to hear if someone has had this problem recently. I read a 2007 post, but that’s about it. THANKS!

I’ve never seen the error message you’re describing but then I don’t do a lot of sub-clipping. I’m running Snow Leopard and FCP7.

Thanks. I upgraded. Still having the issue. It’s with subclips only.

I just imported some subclips and had no issues. No error codes, nothing.
Here’s my preference setup in XDCAM Transfer:
Under the general tab:
- Automatically add media – box is checked
- Show offline media – box is checked
- Audio channels – 4 boxes checked
Under Cache:
Location is: Library>Caches>XDCAM Transfer Cache
Under Import:
Import Location: Volumes>Media RAID (probably not all that important for this post)
- New folder for each source – box is checked
Under Filename:
- Add Clip Title – box is checked
- For subclips and index number – box is checked
Nothing else in the Import tab is checked.
Try these settings and see if it makes a difference,Tomilee.

My transfer settings are exactly the same. But I’ve narrowed the problem to our playback machine, the 1500. We’re checking settings now. I finally thought to use the PDW U1 and it imports subclips just fine. Someone used our 1500 machine to upconvert a video. Maybe the settings got messed up. Keep your fingers crossed. -
I’ve checked the settings and still cannot import subclips with the Sony PDW HD 1500 AND the Sony XDCAM 700-(the camera).
We have the latest FAM driver 2.2 and the latest firmware for the HD1500 (1.5.1). We’ve duplicated the problem on two different Mac systems, one running the XDCAM software 2.11, and one running 2.10. We’ve changed firewire cables.
The last subclip I imported was Feb 17. I first noticed the problem Mar 9. Any ideas? Again. I can import an entire clip, just not subclips. And I can import subclips with the Sony PDW U1 that connects via USB.

Unfortunately, I’m not familiar at all with your 1500 deck or the PDW-700 camera so I’m now out of ideas. You’ll have to wait now until someone else with more knowledge of your equipment than I responds. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Thanks, Don. I’ve been on the phone with Sony all morning and so far, they’re stumped as well. 🙁
