intesity pro card help
Posted by Andy Snyder on August 19, 2008 at 5:53 pmI just got the intensity pro card and hooked it up to my Mac Pro with no problems. Installed the software and seemed to be ready to start capturing with it (I am using a Canon HV 30 to import footage shot in HDV 24 through the HDMI output and into the Intensity card). My question is what should my setup be in FCP 6 in order to capture properly? At this point I have not been able to get it to recognize the camera at all. Help!

When you say you are working with HDV 24 footage, do you mean that you are working with a frame rate of 24 frames per second?
For HD formats, the Intensity family of cards only support HD 1080i50, 59.94 and 720p50 and 59.94. Currently there is no support for 24 frame progressive formats, as the Intensity is only a x1 lane PCIe card, and does not have the bandwidth to cope with the high data rate of progressive formats.
Do you shoot in any other formats other than 1080p24?
So when you connect your camera via HDMI, your capture software will not be able to see an input signal at 24fps, it needs to be a compatible resolution. In Final Cut Pro, you need to please make sure that you use one of the Intensity Easy Setups, which will automtically configure your capture settings for use with your Blackmagic card.
You can also use Blackmagic Deck Control to capture your footage, only this time you choose your easy setup from the Deck Control>>Preferences menu.

Further to what I posted above, I’ve been thinking about your issue some more, and what I mentioned was slightly incorrect.
As a 1 lane PCI express card, the Intensity would have the bandwidth to cope with 1080p24 – the bandwidth of the footage is roughly 130 MB/s, and a 1 lane PCI Express connection can handle around 250 MB/s.
However, the Intensity does not currently support the 24p format, as most HDMI, consumer LCD TVs do not support 24p formats, and as a HDMI card, this would mean you cannot use your main source of monitoring for your footage.
Also, our application is called Blackmagic Media Express for the Intensity card, not Deck Control. Deck control comes with the Decklink family of cards on the Mac. My apologies – (It was a long day yesterday, including a lengthy visit to the dentist! :S)
Have you managed to try any other formats with your Intensity card? Please let me know how you get on, as i suspect the supported formats is the main cause of your problem.

August 26, 2008 at 8:35 amHi…
I am Hari from India. I have been trying to install the new Intensity Pro card in my MacPro 2.66 with Leopard 10.5.4. I have downloaded the latest driver (version 2.0) and installed it. But my problem is, I can not change any settings for this card in the Preferences Pane… since all the options are deactivated.
I have tried with uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and changed the slots also (currently it’s in slot 4-the top most); but with no results… Is there any body facing the same problem? Can anybody give the remedy for this?

Other than the Intensity, and the standard graphics card, have you any other expansion cards installed in this machine?
If you look on your desktop, an application called Blackmagic Media Express is installed with the Intensity drivers. Please start up this application, and see if an error message is received.
If you could please check these things for me, I would like you to contact me at support-emea@blackmagic-design.com as soon as possible for further assistance.
