Interview Lighting Gear
Hi all –
I’m about to start producing some documentaries and was looking for some input from other users regarding what lighting setup they currently use/recommend for shoots such as interviews. I cut my teeth a few years ago at university on normal broadcast video cameras, where the standard setup was a 3-point redhead kit, plus a reflector. Now after an absence from the field I’m getting back into it and have a DSLR setup, and thought perhaps setups have changed, what with all the portable lighting attachments and continuous lighting kits available on ebay.
Opinions/advice greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I love kinoflows, but they are pricey. Otherwise, Tungsten lighting with softboxes.

I’m a big fan of CFL lighting. You can use it anywhere and it’s nowhere near as hot as tungsten. I first started using these as clamp lights. This is the company I get my gear from:
I usually buy on Amazon and if you want cheap gear and fixtures (think of them as temporary if you are just now getting back into it), look up Cowboy Studios.
Also, I bring a couple backdrops for interviews: black, grey, white, blue. These are the paper photo backdrops.
