Might be a dumb question, but I’m a little new to Premiere.

I’m using CS5.5. I’ve shot some footage on the Black Magic Pocket Camera. the .mov files are encoded with a ProRes 422 codec.

My question is: do I loose anything when I import these files into Premiere? IS there any encoding that happens when I import it?

I should just be able import them directly in, right?

No, and no. Premiere Pro works with footage natively, no reencoding.

YUP! Use the Media Browser to do this.
