Not sure who has to collect this new tax. The people ordering outside NY from NY companies? Or just NYers that order from out of state companies. But only seems like the tax is collected if NYers go to the sites via a link on a NY website. Could it be more confusing.

I think it is just the latter “New York Internet shoppers”

I don’t think a state has the right (yet) to collect tax on an item that possession it taken in another state. So I don’t think it effects B&H as much as say Macsales.

My retail store don’t desire our business but I do make a point if I need the benefit of seeing/touching an item I don’t do to a store and then buy it online. I think I owe it to them to purchase it from them. But I also refuse to let brick and mortar place oder stuff and bring it in for me. I can do that myself and save both money and normally time. Just my opinion.

    Ernie,

Like Michael said, the sales tax discussed in this article is New York State Sale Tax for New Yorkers. That only seems right, it the way things have been in Califonia for years. In fact, if a company such as Dell has an office in California we must pay sales tax, even if the item was purchased from Texas. According to the article you posted, Amazon hasn’t bee charging New Yorkers state sales tax evem though their facilites are located in New York. That probably should change…

I guess it will all come to an end sometime. In fact, it’s really only personal purchases that would effect me as my accountant makes me pay ‘Use Tax’ on my internet equipment purchases anyway.

[Ernie Santella] “NY Retailers will soon have to start charging Tax on Internet sales!”

Here in Georgia we’ve been paying tax on all internet sales for almost two years now, no matter where we order from, even B&H. There won’t be a free ride much longer for those who can still order with no sales tax.

    Hi,

This is very convenient. What a great idea (grin). Instead of keeping track of all these purchases and adding them up and paying at the end of the year it will all be taken care of at the time of purchase.

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch
