    Hi-

Making a transition from Avid to FCP. Easy question that I can’t find an answer to… probably b/c terminology is a bit different from one app to the next.

I have a video clip sandwiched by two other clips. I want to change the start and end of the clip in the middle without affecting the other clips. I would call this an internal shift or internal trim.

What does FCP call this and how can you execute.

    Thanks.

You want to take a look at the Ripple Tool. It lets you adjusts a clip’s In or Out point, making the clip longer or shorter, without leaving a gap in the Timeline. Its should be on page 700 of your manual. It effects either clip on the In or Out depending on what side of the cut you use the tool on. Hit the R key twice to get the tool. Hope this helps.

another useful tool, in the same vein, is the slip tool. it will slide the in and outs of the clip simultaneously, while maintaining the clip’s length and not affecting the clips around it.
