I’d like to use Vegas Pro to edit, but CS6 to color correct and grade.

I’m looking for a good workflow. Do I render out my final edits from Vegas to an intermediate codec that is essentially lossless? If so, which one?

Also, an intermediate is not at all the same as a proxy file, right? Isn’t an intermediate file an edit friendly file that may or may not be tweaked further and rendered out to the final format like an mp4?

CineForm is a great digital intermediary format. Avid DNxHD is too but it uses QuickTime which is not native to the PC but great for interchange with Macs. I use CineForm.

You are correct, a proxy is a low quality substitute for the real video that still requires the original video to render while a digital intermediary is a high quality replacement retaining full quality and can/should be used to render from.

Good response, thanks John. I just wasn’t 100% on that.
