I had some issues with repeated vegas shutdowns in my last project. Got on the phone with sony support. Long story short they recommended converting my Sony EX1 Mp4 files through sony clip browser to the MXF rather than the Cineform AVI (i have cineform NEOHD).

If I do this am I forfeiting quality?
Is the MXF a lossless format?

    I shoot and edit 1920×1080 30P.

    No and, IMO, yes.
I recently started shooting with a JVC HM-750 which records in MP4 as well.
I was somewhat skeptical until I tried the clipbrowser and was thrilled with the quality as well as how much easier it was to edit with.
Make sure you get the latest version of the XDCAM EX ClipBrowser (2.60).
I was using version 2.0 and had a few problems which were fixed in the newest version.
    Get it from https://support.sonybiz.ca/esupport/Navigation.do?category=XDCAM+EX
It’s part way down the page.

FYI, MXF is a breeze to edit in Vegas, and maintains image quality. You might want to consider combining the MXF files into one large file. Saves you getting hundreds of smaller MXF files which can be a nightmare to manage. I believe that is done in the clip browser.
