    Hallo,

THis will certainly be a question people will be sick of answering but i have a deadline so pride is going out the window!

I’m editing/fx-ing some title sequences in premiere and AE; capturing footage from DV to prem. For some reason my AE wont read DV at the moment, so i’m having to export footage as uncompressed AVI from prem to then take in to AE, apply the graphics, then send it out as a quicktime to be given to the editor.

The problem is that the footage given to me by the editor looks ‘video’ and what i’m giving him back is looking ‘movie’. This will be due to the upper/lower field domincance option i’m having to check in AE to stop those weird lines that happen when I capture stuff from DV. The footage is always at 25fps so i dont think thats an issue. Should I be using upper or lower field dominance, and should this be done in prem before the bounce out to AE, or in AE before the bounce out to quicktime?

I’m going to do some tests and can probably sort it out but any help here would be super and maybe allow me to go home on time tonight!

    Thanks

All DV footage (NTSC and PAL) is captured lower field first. Make certain your Premiere project settings are ALL lower field first. In AE, you should definitely interpret the footage (in the project window) lower field as well.

When you render the final Quicktime, the editor needs to tell you what the field order of his/her system is. If it’s DV based, it will be lower field first. In PAL land, many higher end devices and capture cards (like Decklink, Kona etc) use upper field first.
