Interlacing and motion blur
I am working on a project in which I’ve been having a lot of trouble with interlacing. When I interpret my media as interlaced LFF and render with interlacing turned off, the footage looks blocky from the interlacing difference but the motion blur looks great. When I make my render settings LFF the motion blur suddenly looks really fake and crappy. It strobes a bit and smears less. Why might this be and what can I do to keep my interlacing settings correct and still have realistic motion blur? Would it help to pre-compose the parts that will blur? Please help.

Try doubling your shutter size when you render fields. This will make the amount of MB equivalent to the frame-rendered MB.

won’t that affect the image’s movement? Will that only affect the MB or also the other footage elements being rendered.

Nope, shutter angle is a function of MB. It doesn’t effect anything else. The default is 180 degrees. Try it at 360.
