  • Interlaced or progressive?

    Hi guys,
    I hope you can help.

I think I am right in saying that (basically) interlaced is for TV and DVD and progressive is for LCD (internet)

I have shot Progressive and would like to burn it to DVD.
I am rendering to DVD using MPEG2, DVD ARCH PAL WIDE.
In the ‘field order’ it is set to Lower first, so I presume that it will be converting it to interlaced.

Is this OK or shall I set it to none?

If the answer is yes, I will check that it is being interlaced when burnt via DVD Architect Pro 5.0.

If the answer is no, I expect I should not let DVD Architect interlace it either?

Does it make a huge difference either way?

    Thanks.
    Will.

You should leave it interlaced if you are making a PAL DVD because PAL is interlaced (like it or not).

The only progressive format that is supported by DVD is 24p. (i.e., 23.976 progressive) So if you want it to be progressive you could render as 24p.

Only if the person who is playing the DVD has a DVD player that can output progressive and a TV/LCD that can accept progressive. If not, the DVD player will interlace your progressive footage on-the-fly because PAL is interlaced.
