Interlaced Horizontal Crawl
I am using Final Cut Pro 5.1 to prepare a video of a crawl my company produces for one of our clients. The crawl is being rendered by an AVID DekoHD Hybrid machine running in 720p 59.94 that is down converted to NTSC anamorphic 16×9. Whenever I try to render a QuickTime movie, the horizontal crawl turns out interlaced. The static elements are fine, only the crawl is affected. These same movies look fine when imported back to Final Cut for broadcast edit by our other clients. I am using a Black Magic Decklink Extreme for capture in uncompressed 8-bit, and I am exporting my QuickTime uncompressed 8-bit. I need to be able to export a good QuickTime without the interlacing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take the Quicktime movie you imported from the Avid machine. Open it in JES Deinterlace (google that and you’ll find the free download). Read the help instructions and use the “Deinterlace” option to make it 30p or 60p. Then import the resulting file into FCP, and make sure the FCP Browser shows field dominance for that clip as “none” before placing it in a sequence with matching settings.
