Interlaced clips to DVD without black lines?
I have an interlaced timeline in Premiere that contains progressive clips from a dSLR and interlaced clips (DVCPro50).
In Encore I want to output it as MPEG2 for DVD.
Can somebody tell me how I get a high quality result on DVD – I mean NO BLACK LINES from the interlaced footage.
I have been told that by burning it to DVD and playing on a TV, the interlacing will not show, but so far this is not the case.
I do not want to use “Deinterlace” as the quality is too bad.
Really, I need to know a good workflow for DVD from Premiere.

If your timeline is interlaced, you need to create an MPEG-2 file that matches your original timeline. So if it’s interlaced Upper Field First, then your MPEG-2 file has to match.

The video clips are from DVCPro50 which I think is lower field first. Do I still select Upper field first?

Your project settings should match your footage.
Check the footage for fields in
https://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/nl
If the dvcpro is lower fields its wise to make a SD timeline with lower field (there is a ready made preset) and drop the HD? dslr into this timeline
Export to mpeg2-dvd lower field (this will give you two files: 1 video file and 1 audio file)
Import this in a DVD Encore project

If it’s DV50 NTSC then the standard would be lower field first.
If it’s DV50 PAL then the standard would be upper field first.
If your timeline is NTSC HD 1080i then you’ll be upper field first.

In PAL-land DV is also lower field first.
If one captured dv with the Matrox codec then it would be upper (that used to be such a pita)
