  • Interlaced artifacts when exporting HD movie?

    Hi there,

I know I still have a quite a bit to learn about different formats.

I have edited a project in FCP using Apple ProRes encoded footage at 1920×1080. All the footage that I shot was progressive (mostly shot on my 7D in h.264 then converted to ProRes to edit).

I have exported my final movie as a 1920×1080 h.264 file at full quality. When I watch it back in Quicktime it looks like there are interlaced artifacts in the movie. There seems to be horizontal lines every now and then in the movie, particularly during transitions.

Why is this happening? Is there a better delivery format then h.264?

If you were editing in 1080, I bet the timeline was set to work in fields (even if you shot in progressive). So when you added transitions that it had to render on export, it created 1080i media in those spots. Try changing the field dominance in the sequence settings to none and re-export.
