    Hi Everyone!

I have a BMD Mutlilink extreme and a mac pro. I have a project that has a lot of movement into it. I captured my media in final cut at 8 bit uncompressed. The video is very clean in my system, however when I export the timeline to creat a DVD using IDVD. I get major interlace issues. The way I got around it to work is by using compressor to switch the file to progressive and then dvd studio pro to creat the disc. It looks fine now. Noe here is my question: Is there any easier way to create a DVD rather than using the steps I did? My concern is that audio is split in compressor and I am worried about sync issues. I am caputuring from DvC-Pro. Thanks for your help!

Is this in PAL or NTSC?

Here’s my experience with NTSC footage:

The problem seems to be an IDVD vs DVD Studio Pro issue.

It seems that IDVD will only work properly with footage saved as DV. It squishes the footage down if it is not in the DV codec. This happens even if you crop the footage to 480 pixels high before importing the footage.

The non DV footage imports as it should in DVD Studio Pro. Not sure if the results are the same in PAL.

    Hi Sandy,
Thanks for the post, So you just export your sequence and then import into DVD Studio Pro. Do you use compressor to help with the interlace problem? If not are there any special settings I should be aware of? It does not matter to me which on I use (idvd or dvd studio pro) as long I do not have to go thru compressor because of the extra steps. Thanks for your help

    regards,

I have been able to just import uncompressed footage directly into DVD Sudio Pro without going through compressor. DVD Studio Pro was smart enough to know what to do with footage that was 486 high.

That said I would test it first because Apple sometimes seems to make changes between versions. For instance IDVD used to be able to handle non DV codec footage in the past as long as it was 480 high.

If you want to see what IDVD is doing with your footage you can look at your footage in the preview player. Non DV footage will have a black bar top and bottom (it squishes the footage that much) and DV footage will fill the entire frame.
