July 28, 2009 at 9:37 pmYou don’t have to render to see changes in Premier, and you can preview the transitions. Minor points, I know. ANd I have to say I am excited about getting to know FCP over the next week – I have a whole week to play with it, so I’m sure by the end of it, I’ll be much more at peace!

July 28, 2009 at 9:40 pm[Andy Crowson] “what’s wrong with a little kicking and screaming?”
Andy,
By the time one’s face gets posted up above on the FCP Forum, you can be sure we have heard every moan, every whine, and every scream and felt every kick possible about a zillion times. Even the most experienced users bitch about things from time to time. However, we also know that FCP is not easy at first, and we know that once every whiner wraps his or her brain around it they will get it and they will appreciate it, warts and all. FCS is a very powerful set of tools and there is a reason it’s been adopted as the tool of choice by thousands of users around the world who previously relied on Avid, Premiere, etc., etc., etc.

You don’t have to render to see changes in FCP unless you’re either doing something wrong or you’re using a hard drive sub-system that is inadequate for the video you’re cutting.
In FCP some transitions are realtime, some aren’t. The one that are in bold type are.

July 29, 2009 at 1:18 pm…which is why I chose to buy it! I know it is very, very good indeed. I’m looking forward to that time when I am sufficiently proficient to love it…
