Interface colors
Hi. Googling I found a lot of questions about how to change the colour of the interface and no answers. I’d like it to be something other than grey, but the real problem is the menu items. I can hardly make them out. Surely, please, there must be some way to change from small black type on a dark grey background!?
The person saying it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

I don’t know about other versions, but in Movie Studio Platinum HD 10 there is an option to use Windows colours instead of the Vegas grey colour scheme. I guess the default Vegas scheme is designed to be neutral and not too bright so it doesn’t affect your perception of the video colour.
Options > Preferences > Display tab > Use Vegas color scheme
Un-check that and Vegas should the colours from your Windows theme (ie same colours as other apps).
If you can hardly make out the menu items (and you don’t have any eyesight problems) then you might need to check/calibrate your monitor colour/gamma. The menu test should be fairly easy to read.

Thanks. That is what I could not find. Setting the windows colours to light grey gives a very usable result.
I noticed that in a lot of the videos about Vegas on youtube the app has plain white for the background so I assume it is not only me that finds the dark grey unworkable.
I don’t understand your comment about the Gamma; please would you explain what you mean by “The menu test should be fairly easy to read.” Do you mean a test in calibrating the gamma with some other program or a test in Vegas?

Ah, sorry, that was a typo – it should be “The menu text should be fairly easy to read.”
The standard Vegas colour scheme has lower menu contrast than standard Windows themes (especially the greyed out inactive items), so if your monitor doesn’t have particularly good colour reproduction, or has poor viewing angle, then the menus and other text labels on the Vegas interface may be harder to read.
I don’t have any trouble reading the Vegas menus in their default colour on either my desktop PC (it has a decent monitor) or my elderly laptop, which also has a good screen (Dell Inspiron with 17″ 1920×1200 LCD).

Thanks again. Part of it is that I have the monitor high up so I sit up straight, then I slump and so view off centre. Classic PEBKAC! In any case I am more comfortable with the much paler grey it is now, so the problem is all solved with your help.
I expect it is just age; I probably would have loved the lower contrast environment a few decades ago. The monitor is a large and expensive iiyama so it is probably ok.
