Thought I would post this here since I found a work around for it…

While working with some footage from my Panasonic HPX-250 I was able to consistently crash FCPX 10.0.7, here’s the scenario…

I had recorded 4 channels of audio with the audio routed as such. Ch. 1 was a mono lav, Ch 2 was a mono shotgun and Ch. 3&4 was the internal camera mic. When importing to FCPX the Ch. 3&4 audio would sometime be seen as dual mono channels, and other times as stereo. This issue only happened on the clips where Ch. 3&4 were tagged by FCPX as stereo.

I needed to move some audio around independently of the video so I broke apart the clip items. This left me with 3 audio tracks. Ch1 and 2 as mono tracks and 3&4 as a single stereo track. When I tried to delete the stereo track I immediately crash FCPX every time. I can delete the mono channels 1&2 with no problems, but that stereo channel gets me. It also doesn’t matter if the clip is in the primary or a secondary storyline prior to breaking it apart

After playing a bit I noticed that if I deleted the video clip that this problem stereo track was connected to it would delete the stereo clip as well without crashing. So for now my work around is to just create a gap clip, connect the stereo track to it and delete the gap clip.

I don’t know if this is just an issue with footage from this camera but it would be interesting to see if anyone else has this issue with broken apart clips that include a stereo track…. hint… hint to any of you out there with time to test this theory.
