I am thinking about buying the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for the purpose of capturing PC computer images. My idea was to get a DVI to HDMI cable hooked up from the display adaptor output of a PC and run it into the Intensity Pro. Blackmagic tech support could not tell me for certain that it would work, however they did mention that they had customers who had gotten it to work as long as the PC’s screen resolution was set as close as possible to a broadcast frame size that the Intensity pro can handle (SD or HD). But wide screen support on PCs are an aspect ratio of 16×10, a little taller than HD at 16×9. Still, BM tech said that they had heard that a PC set to 1920×1200 at 60Hz would be recognized by the 1920x1080i or progressive capture input within Adobe Premiere Pro. Likewise, 1280×768 at 60Hz should be recognized by the 1280x720p capture preset. Before spending the money on the Intensity pro to see if it actually works, I want to hear from anyone who is doing it. Also, here’s a very important question. If it does work, then does the capture codec crop off a thin strip along the top and bottom of the PC capture, or does it squash the 16×10 PC aspect down to 16×9? Any practical experience with this product would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

I’ve tested capturing the output from graphics card in a Mac Pro, Macbook Pro as well as a Windows PC with an Nvidia grpahics card (not sure of the model). The main thing is to ensure that your graphics card is able to output a tv type resolution. On the Mac, these resolution will show up when the Intensity card is connected via a DVI-HDMI adapter, likewise on the PC. This means that your graphics card will have 1920×1080 and 1280×720 resolutions.

    regards

I have been struggling to get this working on my PC setup… any advice from someone who has had success would be great!

I have owned my Intensity Pro for 6 months and have failed to get anything to display on it including:

    Origional Xbox output in 720p
    PC output
    Lumix G1 HDMI output

I’m not sure if I have a bad card or if I’m just not setting it up correctly… any advice from someone who has had success would be great!

    I am running Windows 7

do you know exactly which resolution & hrz settings you used to make it work? I’m outputting from a Nvidea card and its recognizing the HD settings but I still can’t get any of them to show up in Black Magic Media Express.
Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

I wish I could offer some help, but I too am having difficulty with this scenario. I just started a thread in search of assistance: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/124/873206

I have been using my Intensity Pro for a couple of years now to capture HD video from my Xbox 360 and it has worked beautifully. I have recently discovered the anaglyph drivers from iZ3D and would love to record some game footage in 3D. Even though a few people have had success using screen capture software such as Fraps, (which I have also used successfully for years) none of these suites are working for me with the 3D driver enabled. IZ3D says they are working on a proprietary capture solution, but no release date has been announced and time is money to me.

Wanting to retain a high framerate and HD quality, I realized I would have to rely on hardware. After setting up two pcs and plugging my source gaming rig into my recording pc, I have been unable to get a picture through Media Express or Premiere Pro. As mentioned in my other thread, I have tried a few different combinations – having the only bit of luck with the Intensity attached as a secondary monitor.

Could the Intensity not recognize the signal from the source pc because of resolution or frequency issues? Is there a way to adjust the GPU output settings to match that of a TV or 360 or other device that the Intensity would recognize? Why would it not recognize a signal directly from a video card? I’m a rookie in this department… so I’m not sure what is and is not compatible.
