If I purchase a new laptop that uses Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics, will I get GPU acceleration in Vegas 12. I think I read that it supports OpenCL but I don’t know much about this stuff.

Am I better off with a laptop that has an ATI or nvidia GPU?

    Thanks!

If it supports OpenCL and has more than 512MB of graphics memory it “should” work but Sony does not endorse it on their web site. They only mention NVIDIA and AMD as being “supported”.

You would be better off with a laptop that had something like an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M in it. Lots of video applications support CUDA which you only get with NVIDIA.

I reached out to their support team and got this back:

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. ‘GPU acceleration of video processing’ is an option for Intel HD Graphics 4000, and that it does work in both VP11 and VP12 (i.e. it has openCL support). This option is not available in the Intel HD Graphics 3000.

It’s not officially supported but we know it works for Intel HD Graphics 4000.

So that’s good news that at least the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is known to work.
