  • Intel FCP project back to a G5

Posted by James Nolan on December 13, 2006 at 11:13 pm

I’m on a G5 and I’m trying to open a project created by another user with an Intel Mac.
The project file will not open — I just get general error 41.
Is there a setting the Intel Mac user should incorporate to re-save the project file differently? Something I need to do?
    Any suggestions appreciated.

Its not a PPC/intel issue. Its a FCP version issue. The intel machine has to be running 5.1.2 (the universal binary version) Easiest thing is to upgrade your FCP version to 5.1.2. FCP is not forwards compatible. Older version do not open projects created in newer version. If for some reason you need to keep an older version of FCP I believe you can have multiple version installed on your system. Or read this article:

We have several G5s and a Mac Pro and switch all the time without problems. Need to update the G5s.

From the Original Machine, export project using XML 2. You can open that file on your G5.
